It is...Geordi la Forge

First, the recipe. Why? Go to any Star Trek BB and "How do you make Romulan Ale?" is a regular question. On the show, they use blue Gatorade, since the actors of course needed to stay standing. THIS recipe, however, comes to me courtesy of the bartender at the ST 30th anniversery convention in Burbank, CA.

1 part each vodka and Blue Curacao to two parts Sprite, 7-up or my favorite, San Pellegrino Limonata.

This drink is sneaky, It goes down like soda pop and kicks like a mule. Slightly citrusy. We LOVE it.
tWe admit, the only reason it got into this blog was the word "ale" in the name, and our boundless Trekkiness.

We sampled two offerings from He'Brew: the Chosen Beer by Schmaltz Brewing Company.
Bittersweet Lenny's RIPA pays homage to Lenny Bruce. It's a clear medium amber, with a rich round flavour, bready and smooth with a nice bitter aftertaste. A keeper; highly recommended.
Labled as "A double INdia Pale Ale with Rye Malt"

Messiah Bold: nicely aromatic, light textured on the toungue, timy bitter aftertaste, nicley clean finish and foamish. Very palatable, but less than messianic.

And a new favorite from an old favorite-Stone IMperial Stout by Stome Brewing Company Very molassasy. Not much aroma, proper thick head, thick on the toungue. Leaves your mouth and throat tingling with a slightly bitter aftertaste. We all loved the picture. A keeper.
Limited Spring 2007 release. Label says it cellars well- but who's keeping any long enough to find out?

Two from New Belgium

Trippel Belgium Style This improves as you drink it. Nexus would not seek this out. An affordable and approachable Abbey Style Ale. You won't be putting down $7-9 a bottle and wishing you'd just bought a six pack of something else. Just a little funky.

1554 Enlightened Black Much like an undeclared porter, the EB has a smoky mouthful and caramelly texture.

And one for the Kids...

Thomas Kemper- more foamy than fizzy. This is nexus's fave. Not too seet, slightly spicy. Can't be beat with Double Rainbow French Vanilla ice cream.

Stone Pale Ale

Compares to an Abbey Ale, but with more aftertaste. It's not mellow ( it IS a STONE) but it won't put off anyone but the most dedicated wussy yellow beer drinker. 5.4% alcohol, like your typical beer. Not what we've come to expect from Stone-it's like a gateway beer.
